VTech Write and Learn Creative Center Review

The VTech Write and Learn Creative Center was a present for my kids from their grandpa. It was specifically a present for my 3 year old to learn how to write her letters and numbers. Funny thing is that my 6 year old in Kindergarten has used it more often since she is actively learning how to read and write in school.

The VTech Write and Learn Creative Center is a pretty cool learning activity unit. It has a pretty cool program that tells the user how and what letter or number to write. I welcome any toy that will engage my kids to learn.

Starting Up

I open the Vtech box and pulled the unit out of the box easily. It came with some instructions which I read quickly. No real construction needed so no worries there.

What is needed, though, is 2 AA batteries. These batteries are unfortunately not included. Just flip the unit over on the black side and the panel is at the top.

Now your child is ready to start learning to read and write. All you need to do now is turn it back over and hit the power button on the top left of the unit. And you are off to learning town!

How it Works

Once you turn it on, some music plays and it will prompt you to enter a name. Depending on the age of your child you might need to help your child enter his or her name. Once you have, that name will be saved in the system memory and will come up every single time someone turns on the unit.

From here your child will be able select a character they want to try making by hitting the character at the top of the unit. The system will start talking to your child identifying the character chosen and will begin to guide your child on how to make that specific character.

My 6 year old has no problem doing what the computer says to do and enjoys doing it. My 3 year old, however, doesn’t truly understand what the computer wants her to do yet. She just turned 3 so she still might be just a bit too young. She still enjoys drawing random doodles on the pad from time to time. Since it is a magnetic drawing board, drawing and erasing pictures is very easy to do.

The VTech Write and Learn Creative Center comes with a magnetic pen which is attached and 2 different stamp magnets that have a placed to be stored on the unit when no in use. There is also a stencil pad that allows kids to draw the shapes on the pad. It goes on the back of the unit when not in use.

Cleanup and Storage

The VTech Write and Learn Creative Center is about as big as a large book so putting it away when your child is done with it is pretty easy. The pen is attached and has a storage spot for it when not in use along with the stamp magnets and the stencil pad. Just know that the magnets and the stencil pad are not attached to the unit so kids might lose them easily.

I have the kids put the VTech Write and Learn Creative Center away on the shelf next to their books. This way writing and reading go together. Plus, I don’t want the unit to get damaged with all the other toys in the usual toy box.

Overview

I’m actually surprised how much the kids play with this item. It’s one of the best gifts they have ever gotten. Even when they get sick of playing with other average toys, they come back to play with the VTech Write and Learn Creative Center regularly. Plus, it’s not destroyed or in many pieces like many of the other toys they have gone through over the past years.

I highly recommend this for any young child who yearns to learn. I would also recommend it for any child who loves to draw on a regular basis.

If you are buying this as gift for someone else’s kids or your own, you will not go wrong with the VTech Write and Learn Creative Center. Buy it here:
